Liberal Party leadership challenger Basil Zempilas has dismissed concerns about the party’s chances at the state election, saying he will “work his backside off” to win seats. Mr Zempilas is vying for the top job against Libby Mettam, who has stated she would not be interested in being deputy leader if he assumes leadership.

Mr. Zempilas stated he had not thought about whether the Liberal Party would do better at the state election under his leadership, instead choosing to focus on winning the seat of Churchlands.
“We can win a bunch of [seats], but we are going to have to work our backsides off and win them, door by door, vote by vote,” he said. “Do I think I can win? Yes, I do. But is it going to be easy? Absolutely not.”
On Tuesday, Ms Mettam said if Mr Zempilas was to assume the leadership, she would not be interested in being deputy leader.
