Ralph Fiennes Shares His Dream Casting Choice for Voldemort in the Harry Potter Series

Ralph Fiennes, who starred as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies, loved the idea of Cillian Murphy taking on the role for the TV show. He mentioned this during an appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’ on Dec. 2 in response to a fan’s preferred casting. Fiennes expressed his enthusiasm for Cillian Murphy saying, ‘Cillian is a fantastic actor,’ and added, ‘I actually think that’s a wonderful, wonderful suggestion.’ He also stated that he would be all in favor of Cillian playing the role. However, it remains to be seen who will take over the iconic role that Fiennes played in five of the eight Harry Potter films. Fiennes had previously expressed interest in reprising the part should the chance arise, but taking on the role of Lord Voldemort in the first place was something he wasn’t exactly thrilled about at the time. In an interview with ‘CBS Sunday Morning’ in October, Fiennes explained that he was initially hesitant to take on the role because he was ignorant of the delight of the books and what they offered young people. His sister Martha Fiennes urged him to accept the role, telling him, ‘You’re mad. You’re not gonna do it? Voldemort. He’s it. He’s the whole antagonist—he is the one.’ Once Fiennes saw the design for the iconic villain, he knew he’d made the right call and was able to find ways to make the character his own. Fiennes also mentioned that seeing the reaction of children on set helped him feel good about himself in the role. According to an article published by E! Online on December 4, 2024, Fiennes was asked about his preference for the new Voldemort during an appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.’ He replied that Cillian Murphy would be a fantastic choice for the role and expressed his support for the suggestion.
