OpenAI introduces Canvas, an AI-powered collaboration tool that allows users to work with ChatGPT on text documents or code. Paid subscribers can access the feature through a drop-down menu at the top left corner of the conversation screen.
Canvas is a new feature introduced by OpenAI that allows users to collaborate with the AI on text documents or program code in a more interactive and productive way. Canvas is essentially an AI-powered Google Docs where you can work with ChatGPT to write, edit, and revise text or code. It’s available to paid subscribers of OpenAI’s services, including ChatGPT Enterprise, Pro, and Plus users ($20/month).
To access the Canvas model, navigate to the top left corner of the conversation screen and select it from the drop-down menu.
The Canvas interface consists of two side-by-side panes. On the left is the familiar chat conversation where you can interact with ChatGPT using prompts. On the right is the canvas pane where you work on your text or code.
When creating a document in Canvas, you can select text that has been written by either you or the bot and make changes. You can also add or insert entirely new paragraphs. Any selected text will bring up a ChatGPT prompt window where you can make changes to the selected text only.
To access the Canvas model, you need to be a paid subscriber of OpenAI. You’ll find it in the drop-down menu at the top of the conversation screen, in the top left corner. Once selected, you can start interacting with ChatGPT just as you would normally. Use the prompt box to describe the kind of code you need to write or the type of text you need to generate.
Key Features include:
-
Selecting and editing text written by either you or the bot
-
Adding new paragraphs
-
Creating headings
Tips for Using Canvas:
-
To create a new document in Canvas, say something like “Create a document” or “Start a canvas” somewhere in your prompt.
-
You can enter a new prompt to get more text (or code), manually type in something yourself in the canvas pane, or select something ChatGPT has generated and ask for revisions.
