A doctor who went missing while hiking in New South Wales (NSW) bushland has been found safe and well after being lost for four days.
The missing doctor, Dr. Csaba Varga, was an experienced hiker and a respiratory physician at Townsville University Hospital. He had planned to hike on the day after he traveled to nearby Ballina for a business meeting on Friday.
According to Inspector Silversides, Dr. Varga was not prepared for what turned into four days in the bush. He had food and water with him but only enough for a day’s travel, not four days.
Rescuers searched for Dr. Varga and finally found him on Wednesday night. He is now recovering in Murwillumbah District Hospital and may be released as early as Wednesday night.
The hospital’s health service chief, Kieren Keyes, expressed joy at the news of Dr. Varga’s safe return. His colleagues and friends are ecstatic at this news, and they look forward to welcoming him home.
Dr. Csaba Varga, a respiratory physician at Townsville University Hospital, was an experienced hiker who had planned a day hike on Friday. However, he became lost in the bush and was not prepared for the extended period of time he would spend there.
The search for Dr. Varga involved multiple agencies and personnel. He was found with a baseball cap, long-sleeved clothing, long-legged clothing, a mist vest, water vest, food, and water, which helped him survive the extended period in the bush. Natural water sources in the area also contributed to his survival.
The incident highlights the importance of being prepared when venturing into remote areas and the efforts of rescuers who work tirelessly to locate missing individuals.
