Frigid weekend conditions persist through Saturday’s travel period, with temperatures plummeting into the teens and wind chills making it feel like single digits above and below zero.
Frigid Weekend with Continued Slick Travel Saturday
A clipper system to our south is beginning to link up with a coastal low, and we’re on the northern fringe of this complex weather pattern. This will lead to light snow continuing to plague many communities throughout the evening into the overnight hours.
Temperatures will tumble into the teens to low 20s overnight through early Saturday morning. Wind chills will likely be in the single digits to middle teens, all as a brisk northwest wind kicks in for the weekend.
High temperatures will top out in the teens on both Saturday and Sunday, but it’s the wind chill values that will mean the most this weekend. Northwest winds will gust upwards of 30 mph on Saturday afternoon, which will significantly impact our wind chills. It will be feeling like the single digits above and below zero at times through Saturday afternoon with continued upslope mountain snow and valley flurries.
Weekend Weather Update
Overnight into Sunday morning, it turns even colder as the snow shuts off and winds begin to relax. Wake-up wind chill values on Sunday morning will be brutal with many feeling like the teens to middle 20s below zero. Winds will continue to relax throughout Sunday with improving wind chills in the single digits above and below zero by the afternoon.
Weekend Outlook
Sunday night into Monday morning, a brief high pressure system sweeps in with more sunshine to kick off the holiday week. Snowfall totals between tonight and the end of the weekend will average a widespread dusting to 4 inches with localized 5+ inch amounts in the high slopes, peaks, and summits. Ski areas and resorts will make out real well with this fine, powdery, sugary snowfall.
Important Travel Advisory
Travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution due to slick travel conditions. The combination of light snow and strong winds will lead to hazardous road conditions throughout the weekend. Plan your trip accordingly and check for updates before heading out.
