After nine years of serving as the main meteorologist at NewsChannel 5, Bree Smith has parted ways with the station. In a statement from station manager Richard Eller, it was confirmed that Smith is no longer with NewsChannel 5.
Smith, 43, expressed her gratitude to the weather team and the viewers she had come to know over the years, stating that she plans on being both a meteorologist and a mom. Her last day on air was Friday, and although details about her departure are scarce, Smith hinted at the idea of going out with a “massive snowstorm.”
The news comes as a significant loss for NewsChannel 5, following the departures of longtime anchors Vicki Yates and Amy Watson in recent years. However, during her time at the station, Smith built a strong connection with viewers through clear and concise weather explanations, as well as entertaining social media videos.
Throughout her career, Smith has shared personal stories, including one about her father’s alcoholism and subsequent death when she was 10. This story was told to mark National Recovery Month in September 2021, highlighting her commitment to mental health awareness.
As Smith moves forward with her new chapter, she plans to stay in Nashville and raise her boys. She left a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing her appreciation for the support from viewers and fans, including one comment that summed up the sentiment of many: “we truly loved you and your broadcasting.
