A Hungarian national’s daring stunt on a German high-speed train has left authorities warning of the dangers of attempting to board a moving train.
Daring Stunt: Passenger Clings to German High-Speed Train and Survives
A 40-year-old Hungarian national found himself in a precarious situation when he attempted to board a high-speed train in Munich without a valid ticket. The man, who was trying to take a smoking break at the station in Ingolstadt, ended up clinging to the outside of the train as it pulled out of the station.
The Daring Escape
According to police reports, the man had boarded the ICE train in Munich but lingered too long over his cigarette. As a result, the train doors closed, leaving him stranded. In a desperate attempt to rejoin the train, he jumped onto a bracket between two carriages and held on to cables as the train accelerated towards Nuremberg at speeds of up to 282 km/h (175mph).
A Miraculous Rescue
Witnesses alerted officials, who contacted the train driver and made an unscheduled stop at Kinding in Upper Bavaria. The intercity express was on a six-hour journey to the northern city of Lübeck. A police officer who happened to be traveling with the train found the 40-year-old Hungarian “passenger” and brought him on board.
Consequences
The man is expected to face charges for “an act disruptive to operations,” which is classified as a mere administrative offense. Federal police have issued a warning to the public, cautioning them against risking their lives on Germany‘s trains.
A Close Call
Miraculously, the man survived his daredevil ride without sustaining any serious injuries. His incredible story serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of attempting to board a moving train and highlights the importance of following safety protocols when traveling by rail.
