Philadelphia Weather Update: Snow Storm Expected for Sunday
A significant snow storm is predicted to hit the Philadelphia area this weekend, with measurable accumulations expected during the Eagles playoff game on Sunday and into Sunday night.
Snowfall Timing and Totals
The snow storm will be preceded by a Saturday with showers and highs in the mid-40s. However, temperatures will plummet into the 20s on Monday and drop into the teens by the middle of next week, with lows expected to be in the single digits.
On Sunday, snow will move in from the south and west around noon and become more widespread as the afternoon continues. The heaviest band of snow is expected to be north and west of Philadelphia, but could shift closer to the city depending on the track of the storm.
What to Expect
The farther south and east you travel, the less snow you can expect, with a coating to 2 inches possible in those areas. All other points could see anywhere from 2 to 5 inches of snow. There is also a potential for 5-8 inches of snow in areas under the Winter Storm Watch.
Winter Storm Watch
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for portions of Berks, Chester, Lehigh, Montgomery, and Bucks counties by the National Weather Service, with forecasters predicting 5-8 inches of snow. A similar watch has also been issued for Northampton County and northern New Jersey, where up to 10 inches of snow is possible.
