The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released its latest weather outlook for the last week of January 2025, which indicates that temperatures in the Portland metro area will likely be below normal. According to NOAA’s temperature outlook for January 24-30, there is a strong likelihood of temperatures leaning below average.
Precipitation Outlook
As far as precipitation is concerned, NOAA is forecasting “near normal” chances for the last week of January. This means that while some rain is possible, it will likely be on par with historical averages.
A Taste of Winter
KOIN 6 News Meteorologist Josh Cozart notes that the middle of the month has been unusually dry, with Portland experiencing its longest stretch without measurable rain since January 12. However, there is a chance of rain by the end of next week as high-pressure systems begin to break down and allow arctic air from the east to move into western Oregon and Washington.
Coldest Temperatures So Far This Season
Cozart predicts that Portland will experience its coldest temperatures yet this season, with lows falling into the upper 20s during early morning hours. On average, morning lows in Portland should be in the mid-30s at this time of year.
Gradual Warming Trend
While a taste of winter is expected, Cozart notes that it won’t last forever. A gradual warming trend is anticipated next week as rain chances increase, which will likely return temperatures to near normal conditions by the end of the month.
