Unlock the power of custom emojis with Apple’s Genmoji tool, a game-changing feature that allows you to create unique and personalized emojis using text prompts or even a person’s photo.
Unlocking the Power of Custom Emojis with Genmoji
For decades, choosing an emoji has been limited to what’s available on your smartphone’s keyboard. While new emojis are introduced every year, there may be times when the preinstalled options just aren’t specific enough. Thankfully, Apple has a solution – Genmoji.
What is Genmoji?
Genmoji allows you to generate custom emojis using text prompts or even a person’s photo from your Photos library. With the help of Apple Intelligence, you can create new kinds of emojis that suit your needs.
Getting Started with Genmoji
Before you begin, ensure that you have access to Apple Intelligence and Genmoji. To do this:
-
Check if you’re running iOS 18.2 or newer by going to Settings > General > About.
-
If you need to update, back up your device first.
-
Enable Apple Intelligence in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Using Text Prompts with Genmoji
To create a custom emoji using text prompts:
-
Open the Messages app and tap on the emoji icon or keyboard icon to access the emoji keyboard.
-
Tap on the Genmoji icon (the pink and blue smiley face with a plus sign) in the upper right-hand corner of the keyboard.
-
Type a few words or a phrase into the textbox that describes what you’re looking for, such as “dog in a birthday hat.”
-
Swipe through the populated Genmojis and tap Add on the one you want to use.
Using Images with Genmoji
You can also create custom emojis based on images of people in your Photos app:
-
Type in a prompt like “Julian celebrating his birthday” and tap Choose a Person from the list of contacts.
-
Select the specific person, and various Genmojis will populate based on the prompt.
-
Tap Add when you’ve found the one you want to use.
Fine-Tuning Your Genmoji
You can tweak your original prompt to create new versions of your original Genmoji:
-
In the Genmoji window, tap on the text box.
-
Type in a refined version of your prompt or an entirely new version, such as “dog with a birthday cake.”
-
The Genmoji will automatically repopulate new versions.
Managing Your Genmojis
You can delete a Genmoji from your library if you no longer want it or want to create an updated version:
-
Open the emoji drawer on the Messages app and tap the emoji or keyboard icon.
-
Find the Genmoji you want to delete, long-press, and tap Delete.
Remember that Genmoji is still in beta, so it may not always work smoothly and may make errors.
