Haas F1 team makes history with the appointment of Laura Müller as the first female race engineer in Formula One, marking a significant milestone for women in motorsport.
Haas Names Müller as Formula One’s First Female Race Engineer
Laura Müller has made history by becoming the first female race engineer in Formula 1. She has been promoted to this senior trackside position within the team, Haas, and will work alongside new driver Esteban Ocon.
A Landmark Moment for F1
The role of a race engineer is one of the most significant positions on the pit wall, acting as the main link between the driver and the team. This includes both strategic decisions made during races and technical adjustments to the car.
Müller’s appointment comes after changes within Haas, where she was previously working as a performance engineer. Her move marks a significant milestone in the history of Formula 1, highlighting the growing role of women in motorsport at the highest level.
Team Principal’s Endorsement
Team principal Ayao Komatsu has expressed his confidence in Müller’s abilities, stating that her determination and work ethic make her an ideal candidate for the position. He emphasized that her gender was not a factor in the decision, stressing that Haas values talent over nationality or background.
“Her determination is the one that impresses me the most,” said Komatsu. “She’s a pretty determined character, and then she’s very hardworking. Her work ethic is really, really good.”
New Faces at Haas
Müller will be working alongside newcomer Esteban Ocon this season. The French driver joins Haas from Alpine after Kevin Magnussen’s departure. Other notable changes include the appointment of Carine Cridelich as Haas’ new head of strategy, starting in March.
Haas finished seventh in the F1 standings last season with 58 points, ahead of Racing Bulls, Williams, and Kick Sauber.
