The Shell Factory & Nature Park’s beloved animals have found new homes in Southwest Florida, thanks to a collaborative effort between local animal lovers and organizations.
The New Homes of The Shell Factory Animals
When The Shell Factory & Nature Park closed its doors in September 2024, many were left wondering what would become of its beloved animals. Fortunately, a collaborative effort between local animal lovers and organizations ensured that these creatures found new “forever homes” in Southwest Florida.
A Home for Moo and Friends at Blossom & Brie
Moo, the massive Holstein steer, is now living his best life at North Fort Myers farm Blossom & Brie. This 13-year-old gentle giant has become a fan favorite among visitors, who often pose for photos with him. “He’s such a giant,” says co-owner Stacey Poole. “He’s 1,600 pounds. He is giant compared to our other cows. But he’s also just the sweetest.”
Birds Soar at Wonder Gardens
Several birds from The Shell Factory have found a new home at Bonita Springs’ Wonder Gardens. Keel-billed toucan Rita, Moluccan cockatoo Dusty, and five aquatic turtles are just a few of the animals enjoying their new surroundings. “They’re interacting really well with the other birds,” says Kaitlyn Henry, director of living collections at Wonder Gardens. “They’re interacting with guests — very curious.”
Nan’s Ranch: A New Home for Exotic Animals
The Shell Factory animals have also found a new home at Nan’s Ranch in North Fort Myers, where Lee County Jail inmates learn new skills every day caring for lemurs, coatimundi, and other critters. “They’re doing really well,” says Julie Sin, spokeswoman for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. “They feel right at home.” Visitors can schedule a tour to see these animals in their new habitat.
All three venues – Blossom & Brie, Wonder Gardens, and Nan’s Ranch – have provided a safe and loving environment for The Shell Factory animals.
