Lionsgate’s ‘Flight Risk’ Soars to Second No. 1 Debut of 2025 with Over $11 Million
Box Office Update: ‘Flight Risk‘ Lifts Lionsgate to Second No. 1 Opening of 2025
Lionsgate is poised for its second No. 1 opening of 2025 with the Mel Gibson-directed and Mark Wahlberg-starring Flight Risk, which is expected to gross over $11 million in its opening weekend.
The movie, which cost around mid-$20 million to produce, has been funded by Lionsgate with two-thirds of the budget covered by foreign sales. The studio’s investment in print and advertising (P&A) is also estimated to be in the same range.
Flight Risk is currently booked at 3,161 theaters, including 660 Premium Large Format screens and 273 Motion seat screens (4DX, DBOX, MX4D). Despite some concerns about its performance, tracking service Quorum suggests that unaided awareness has stalled at 4%, with interest slipping from 55% to 51%.
However, the movie’s chances of success are boosted by positive reviews from audiences. Flight Risk received a 3-star rating from Screen Engine/Comscore PostTrak audiences last night, with 72% of viewers finding it positive. Men made up 58% of the audience, and an overall audience of 80% over 25 showed up.
Despite these positives, Flight Risk will face stiff competition this weekend, including two NFL conference championship games. If the movie underperforms, it may be at the mercy of Disney‘s Mufasa: The Lion King, which is heading into its sixth weekend with an eye on $8-9 million.
