Barcelona Dominates Valencia 7-1 in La Liga Opener
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side made a statement in their first La Liga win of 2025, dismantling Valencia 7-1 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.
The Catalans were clinical from the start, with Frenkie de Jong scoring the opener just five minutes into the game. The Dutch midfielder slotted home after a fine assist from Lamine Yamal, who provided his league-leading 10th assist of the season. Ferran Torres doubled the lead eight minutes later, and Raphinha made it three for Barça with a through ball from Fermín López.
Barcelona continued to dominate in the first half, with Pau Cubarsi finding Fermín on a line-breaking run for the fourth goal just 23 minutes into the match. Fermín would secure his brace after Raphinha hit the crossbar as he was there to pounce on the rebound a minute before halftime.
The win was already secured by the time the teams headed into the break, but Barcelona continued to create chances in the second half. Hugo Duro scored for Valencia 59 minutes in, but Robert Lewandowski‘s league-leading 17th goal of the season just six minutes later restored Barça’s four-goal lead. The nightmare only worsened for Valencia when César Tarréga gifted Barça their seventh with an own goal.
