KG Mobility Revamps Its Pickup Truck Brand, Launches Musso EV in Q1
A New Era for the Musso Brand: From SUVs to Electric Pickups
KG Mobility Corporation plans to launch a battery-powered pickup truck, the Musso EV, in the first quarter of 2025. This move marks a significant milestone for the company as it aims to become the first South Korean automaker to produce a battery-powered pickup truck.
The Musso brand, previously used by Ssangyong Motor for its sturdy SUVs that combined the practicality of an SUV with the cargo capacity of a pickup truck, will now be relaunched as KG Mobility’s dedicated pickup truck sub-brand. The new Musso EV model combines the advantages of electric vehicles with the practicality of pickups.
KG Mobility sold a total of 109,424 vehicles last year, down 6% from 116,099 units in 2023. Despite this decline, the company remains committed to diversifying its product lineup and building on the rich heritage of the Musso brand.
A Heritage Reborn: The Story Behind the Musso Brand
The name “Musso” is derived from the Korean word for “rhinoceros,” symbolizing strength and power. Over the past 23 years, KG Mobility has introduced several pickup models, including the Actyon Sports (2006-2011), Korando Sports (2012-2017), and Rexton Sports (2018-2025). With the new Musso brand, KG Mobility aims to bolster its presence in the pickup truck market.
“We believe launching the Musso brand marks a significant milestone in our journey as a leader in the pickup truck industry,” said a company official. “We will continue to diversify our product lineup to build on the rich heritage of the Musso brand.
