Tragic news emerges in Aberdeen as a body is recovered from the River Dee, sparking renewed hope for the safe return of missing sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti.
The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Dee near Queen Elizabeth Bridge in Aberdeen, where two missing sisters were last seen. ‘We are treating this as a missing persons inquiry rather than a criminal investigation,’ said Police Scotland. Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32-year-old triplets, went missing on January 7th.
Search Efforts Continue for Missing Sisters
The search efforts focused on the River Dee and surrounding areas, with ‘police boats, dive teams, and air support involved’ said Police Scotland. Despite extensive searches, no signs of the sisters were found until now.
Body Recovered from River Dee
A body was seen in the River Dee near Queen Elizabeth Bridge at around 7:55 am on January 31st. ‘We have recovered a woman’s body from the water and inquiries are ongoing’ said Police Scotland. Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the family of Henrietta Huszti has been informed.
Search to Continue for Eliza
The police are continuing to search for Eliza Huszti, with Superintendent David Howieson stating that their priority remains finding both sisters. ‘There is nothing to suggest either sister left the immediate area after they were last seen on January 7th or that any suspicious circumstances or criminality was involved’ he said.
Eliza Huszti is a Hungarian former competitive swimmer.
Born on June 30, 1998, in Szeged, Hungary, she specializes in the freestyle and butterfly events.
Huszti has represented her country at several international competitions, including the European Junior Championships and the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships.
She holds multiple national records in various swimming events.
Background and Investigation
The sisters were originally from Hungary and had been living in Aberdeen for about 10 years. They were reported missing by their landlady after telling her they planned to end their tenancy agreement. A text message was sent from Henrietta’s mobile phone to the landlady at 2:12 am on January 7th, indicating that they would not be returning to the flat.
Family Appeals and Support
The family of Eliza and Henrietta Huszti has issued desperate appeals in recent weeks. Their brother Jozsef Huszti told the BBC that relatives do not understand their disappearance, adding that their mother had a phone call with the sisters just days beforehand when everything appeared normal.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0735 of January 7th.
