Thousands of Virgin Media customers in the UK experienced internet outages on Monday morning, with over 10,000 people reporting broadband issues.
Thousands of customers across the UK reported issues with their internet connection on Monday morning. According to Downndetector, which tracks website outages, over 10,000 people experienced broadband problems.
Internet outages can be caused by a variety of factors, including network congestion, hardware failures, and cyberattacks.
According to a report by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the most common causes of internet outages are equipment failure (34%), human error (26%), and natural disasters (15%).
Additionally, cybersecurity threats such as Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks can also lead to internet disruptions.
The issue started around 10:00 GMT, with users taking to social media to report their struggles. ‘We are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it as a top priority.’ said a spokesperson for Virgin Media O2. They apologized for any inconvenience caused.

Virgin Media O2 is a leading telecommunications provider in the UK, offering a range of services including broadband, TV, and mobile phone coverage.
The company was formed in 2021 through the merger of 'Virgin Media' and 'O2', creating one of the largest media and communications companies in the country.
With over 47 million customers, Virgin Media O2 provides fast and reliable connectivity to homes and businesses across the UK.
Its network covers over 99% of the population, making it a major player in the UK's telecommunications market.
Virgin Media O2 serves over 45 million customers across the UK, including mobile, broadband, home, and phone services. The company reported having ‘5.7 million broadband customers’ in October 2024. Despite previous issues, Virgin Media has shown improvement in Ofcom‘s standings. In February 2025, the regulator found that Virgin Media had fewer complaints than TalkTalk, EE, and NOW Broadband.
The company’s spokesperson reassured customers that they are aware of the intermittent issues with their services and are working to fix them as soon as possible.
