Bollywood Star’s Kung Fu Skills Confuse Social Media as Misidentified Video Sparks Frenzy in Delhi
The recent election of Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister of Delhi has been met with widespread excitement and celebration across social media platforms. However, a video that went viral on Facebook and X, claiming to show the newly elected chief minister performing martial art stunts with a sword, has turned out to be nothing more than a misidentification.

The video in question shows a woman dressed in a saree demonstrating what appears to be sword-fighting moves. The post, shared on February 21, claimed that the video showed Rekha Gupta, the newly elected Chief Minister of Delhi. However, a reverse image search on Google revealed that the same video was uploaded by dancer and actor Payal Jadhav on her verified Instagram account on February 19.
The caption accompanying the video on Jadhav’s Instagram account read: ‘A tribute to the great deeds of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.’ This further confirmed that the video was not related to Rekha Gupta, but rather a tribute to the Indian ruler who founded the Maratha kingdom in 17th century India.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a Maratha king who ruled from 1674 to 1680.
Born in 1630, he is considered one of the greatest leaders in Indian history.
He unified various clans and established a powerful empire in western India.
Known for his bravery and military tactics, Shivaji defeated the Mughal Empire and expanded his territory.
He also implemented social and economic reforms, including the creation of a unique system of governance and taxation.
Today, he is revered as a national hero in India.
Comments from social media users suggested that they took pride in the video as it purportedly showed the new chief minister showcasing her prowess. One user likened the woman to another firebrand Hindu leader of the BJP, while another user suggested that self-defence training should be made mandatory in all schools.
In a post on Instagram, Payal Jadhav issued a clarification over the video confirming that it shows her, not the Delhi chief minister. ‘Recently, it has come to my attention that this video is being circulated on social media with a mention that it is of the Honorable Chief Minister, Mrs. Rekha Gupta. This information is incorrect,’ she wrote.
The incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it on social media platforms.
