Soccer players are improving their visual-motor skills through nighttime training sessions using low-light technology developed by Okkolo.
Why Soccer Players Are Training in the Dark
Soccer players are training in the dark to improve their visual-motor skills. Okkulo is a sports science company that has developed a unique training method using different types of low light. The technology challenges the player’s peripheral vision, depth perception, and reaction times.
Okkulo’s founder suggests that consistent training under restricted lighting can have remarkable effects on certain visual motor skills. A six-week study conducted with 22 professional soccer players from Sunderland AFC showed a significant improvement in motor reaction time.
The company claims that their approach has a greater impact on improving athletic performance than simply using dimmed light. Okkulo’s technology is currently being used in soccer training, but its potential applications extend beyond the sport.
