Western Balkans Summit: Little Progress Expected
The talks in Brussels are nominally part of the Western Balkan countries’ journey towards EU membership. However, DW’s senior correspondent Bernd Riegert does not expect any significant movement on this issue. The six Western Balkan countries – Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia – have been working towards EU accession for years.
Rutte: Ukraine Support Center in Germany Now Operational
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that a NATO command center in Wiesbaden, Germany is now operational. This center will assist Ukraine and provide training for its troops. The facility has been in the works since 2022, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Zelenskyy to Meet European Leaders in Brussels
President Zelenskyy will meet with NATO chief Mark Rutte, as well as leaders from Germany, Poland, Italy, Denmark, and the EU.
