Fatal Crash on Hillside Road Leaves One Man Dead
A major crash occurred on Monday afternoon on Hillside Road in Amarillo, resulting in the death of one man and injuring a child and another adult. The Amarillo Police Department (APD) has released details about the incident.
Details of the Crash
According to APD, Dylan Thomas Bird, 37, was driving eastbound on the inside lane of Hillside Road at around 1:38 p.m. when he changed lanes unsafely, causing both vehicles to lose control. The Subaru, which Bird was driving, then struck a residence and a wooden electrical pole.
Meanwhile, a blue 2012 Ford Focus driven by a 31-year-old man was traveling eastbound on the right outside lane next to the Subaru. Both vehicles collided, resulting in serious injuries for all parties involved.
Injuries and Response
Bird died at the scene due to his injuries sustained during the crash. A child passenger in the Subaru suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford Focus also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility.
Randall County Justice of the Peace Joanne Flores responded to the scene, and APD’s Traffic Investigation Squad is currently investigating the incident.
Road Closures and Public Safety
The eastbound lanes of Hillside were closed for several blocks following the crash, and the public was asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route. The closure was necessary to ensure public safety and facilitate the investigation.
This is a developing story, and more information will be added as it becomes available.
