Local youth, Teddy, has made a significant impact on his community by collecting over 2,500 plastic confectionery tubs that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. His mission is to save the planet and inspire others to do the same.
At just six years old, Teddy has already made a significant impact on his community by collecting over 2,500 plastic confectionery tubs that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. His mission is simple yet powerful: to save the planet and inspire others to do the same.
His journey began when he discovered that these types of tubs cannot be recycled by the kerbside in his area. He was ‘angry‘ about this fact, but instead of getting discouraged, he decided to take action. With the support of his mum Laura and others, Teddy wrote letters, put up posters, and even visited the local tip to ask staff to save any tubs that people had binned.
Plastic recycling is a process that involves collecting and processing plastic waste to create new products.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), only about 8% of all plastic ever produced has been recycled.
The most common types of plastics recycled are PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and HDPE (high-density polyethylene).
Recycling plastic helps conserve natural resources, reduces landfill waste, and decreases greenhouse gas emissions.
Last year, Teddy collected 358 tubs, but this year he smashed his target of 500, reaching an impressive 2,598 in just a month. He’s been collecting tubs from houses and even taking them out of bins. His mum Laura is proud of the progress they’ve made together: ‘People have been so supportive and kind getting behind him. Every time we come home there’s more tubs left on the doorstep.‘

Teddy wants to be a marine biologist or stunt man when he grows up, but for now, his focus is on saving the planet. He believes that ‘it doesn’t matter what change you’re making or how big or small, it does make a difference to our environment.‘ His hero, David Attenborough, has inspired him to take action and look after the planet.
Teddy‘s collected tubs will be taken to The Shamblehurst Barn pub as part of Greene King‘s Tub2Pub charity appeal. From there, they’ll be sent to a plastic reprocessing centre where they can be recycled into new products. While Teddy has no plans to repeat his feat next year, he’s already made a lasting impact on his community and inspired others to take action.
Teddy‘s story is a reminder that every small action counts and that we all have the power to make a difference. Whether it’s collecting plastic tubs or reducing our own waste, we can all play a role in protecting the planet.
Environmental protection is crucial for maintaining a healthy planet.
Human activities have led to pollution, climate change, and loss of biodiversity.
Governments and organizations worldwide are implementing policies to reduce carbon emissions, promote renewable energy, and conserve natural resources.
According to the United Nations, 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture, while 21% come from industry.
Implementing sustainable practices in daily life can significantly contribute to environmental protection.
